The Shawshank redemption was released on September 23, 1994, it was directed by Frank Darabont. The Shawshank Redemption won several Academy Awards, such as best picture, best Actor in a leading role. It’s worth the time because of the story line, time frame, setting, and casting. Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), a banker that was wrongly convicted for killing his wife and her lover. The story is set in 1949, and told through Ellis “Red” Redding (Morgan Freeman) we see through his point of view. He gives you just enough information and then holds back to give you that suspense. He sees Andy as weak when he first comes to prison. They later become best friends. Then there is Warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton) who calls himself a christen quoting …show more content…
The message in this story is redemption where Andy has time to reflect on his life behind prison walls, and Red learns some things from Andy that makes him see life differently. There comes a time when another inmate has information that could free Andy, but the warden has him killed, because he doesn’t want to lose Andy, his financial advisor. They go to his cell and there’s a poster of Raquel Welch on the wall, the warden throws something at the wall and there’s a hole in the wall, you can’t help but laugh. While everyone thought Andy was just quiet and in his own thoughts, he was digging a tunnel for twenty years. This just shows that hope never dies and nothing is impossible. When Red went to his parole hearing, he had an inner peace about himself and he won the approval of the parole board to be released. Red followed in the same footsteps as another prisoner that was released. He worked at the same store and had the same apartment as Brook had. This parolee, Brooks Haldlen (James Whitmore) he was the librarian couldn’t adjust to life on the outside, so he committed suicide. The good thing is, Red didn’t kill himself, he took Andy up on his lifeline offer, and that’s been to break his parole and go find Andy in Zihuatanejo, a city in Mexico. The most intriguing part was after Andy escaped, he set everyone up, the guards and the warden who killed himself. He left a rich man off the warden, but he didn’t forget his friend Red. He left him money and a letter under a rock telling him where to find him. When Red reads the letter you hear Andy talking to him telling him if he’s reading this letter then he knows he’s out, so
