He says the internet is desensitizing the human brain to store more information. On the other side, it can be said that the reason the internet is there in the first place is for that reason specifically. People shouldn’t have to store massive amounts of information when they have a tool right at their fingertips to do it for them. As technology becomes more advanced people should have the luxury to store the information that they want to. In addition, the human brain naturally makes errors from time to time. With a computer, those human errors are taken out of the situation and intern things are actually more organized. The brain takes a long time to complete takes that the internet can do in seconds. For example, manually it would take a person years to learn a whole new language but with the internet a new language can be used in minutes. The internet takes the burden off the brain so that life is filled with entertainment and pleasure instead of constant researching through books. Yes, it is true that people do not store as much mental information as they did in the past, there are more short attention spans, and that people are losing basic abilities such as spelling. That is a problem and it needs to be improved but the internet is still an extremely important tool. Back then, cultures were very disconnected and no one really knew what was going on throughout the world. Now the world is interconnected and global relationships have been built because of the advanced internet. Without the internet nations would still be completely separated both by oceans and culture. I feel if the internet could be used in an academic setting as a last resort then then people would still retain large amounts of information just like schooling back then. What would make me the reader and the author happy is if the world was filled with smart computer users not people that depended on them.
