Public Restroom Argumentative Essay

Transgender people are so hated in our society that bills have been proposed saying that any person of “questionable gender” should be forced to flash their genitalia before entering a public restroom; that is absolutely ridiculous, not to mention borderline sexual assault (Chicago Tribune). There is absolutely no reason for you to look at someone (especially a stranger!) and feel the urge to ask them what their genitals look like. Everyone goes to the bathroom for the same thing-to go to the bathroom. All transgender people want is to be able to relieve themselves in peace without being harassed or stared at. Public restrooms are for everyone, and trans people deserve the opportunity to use them just like every other normal person.

All employers are legally required to provide workers with reasonable access to restroom facilities-transgender or not (The Human Rights Campaign). There was a bill proposed right here in Indiana by a lawmaker that would make it illegal for anyone to use a public restroom that doesn’t align with the gender they were assigned at birth. We all have to use them at some point in our lives, so why not allow people to have the most comfortable and safe experience as possible? Transgender people are people, and just like everybody else, they go to the bathroom to do just that. There is absolutely no reason for all the hatred and bigotry that trans people face in their daily lives. The bills that people are trying to pass to single trans people out and put them in uncomfortable, unsafe situations are ridiculous. We need to make more laws protecting not just transgender people, but all people in the LGBTQ+ community. The hatred that they all face needs to end. Transgender people deserve the right to relieve themselves in peace, without having to worry about sexual assault or

Most bathroom bills that have recently been proposed aim to make sure trans people can only use public bathrooms that match the sex indicated in their birth certificate. This means that a trans woman who was born male will not be allowed to use a female bathroom in a mall or a restaurant. It might seem like too much trouble to go through in an effort to limit a trans person’s use of the bathroom, but…

Recent in the news I have been hearing about the Trans Bathroom Law and it genuinely confuses me as to why it is such an issues. Why do people care so much about a stranger's genitals that would prompt them to make a law forcing them to use the incorrect bathroom? I am a transman living in Texas just trying to get by. This law affects me and people around me because I am a mostly passing man having to use the Women’s bathroom. I do not understand why forcing a trans person to use the wrong bathroom is more acceptable than having the decency to just let them use the restroom of gender they identify with.…

House Bill 2 requires transgender people to use a bathroom they no longer identify with. This can make a transgender person feel unsafe and bullied by others in the restroom or locker room. When a male is transforming to a female does he use the women’s or men’s bathroom, or does he use what’s most comfortable for him? If he uses, what’s most comfortable for him that brings up the question of is that what’s most comfortable for everyone else using the bathroom? “In 2016, at least 15 states have considered “bathroom bills” similar to the legislation recently enacted in North Carolina, which blocks transgender people from using bathrooms that don’t correspond to the sex listed on their birth certificate.” (Young RP 44)…

Even recently, in North Carolina, our state government has issued what is basically an anti-trans bill. This bill (House Bill two, often abbreviated to HB2) requires that transgender people, regardless of the surgeries they may or may have had, to use public bathrooms that correspond to the sex on their birth certificate. Many people believe that this was out of fear that a trans women, who they believe is still a man, would try to come into the women’s restroom and harass women or children. The only time I’ve heard of harassment in a public restroom is from cis-gendered people harassing transgender people or people of the same gender…

The number of anti-transgender bills has been increasing, and is higher now in 2015 than any other year. This wave of legislation seems to be in response to the advances made in state non-discrimination policies that protect transgender people (Daileda). The opposition has proposed many bills that are unfair to transgender people: So-called “bathroom bills” introduced by social conservatives…typically mandate that…

Republicans have argued that letting transgender women use little girls bathroom is inappropriate. While I believe in equal rights for all, I am a bit concerned about transgender women using the same bathroom as the rest of us, not because I am worried that those women would harm anyone, but it does worry me how this law could be easily exploited by men who might want to harm little girls or women. However, we will have to find a way to accommodate everyone equally while keeping us all safe and comfortable. This is definitely easier said than done.…

While the laws continue to be disrupting the community and rights of women, the community continues to act out by having peaceful protests and marches throughout the world. A peaceful resistance does not negatively impact the society when certain members of that society are enacting in the resistance; but the others that do not participate are, in fact, deeply offended by it. Although in my opinion, it sheds a positive light on what the people have to say. Considering the new law about transgenders using the bathroom for whichever gender they were born as bathroom causes an uproar in the lives of Texans now; this law is not only disrespectful to the transgender community, but it can also cause havoc in a place where there should be safety and privacy.…
