After completing the leadership self-assessment and bar graph I identified the dominant leadership behaviors included providing direction, leading courageously, championing change, coaching and developing people and acting with integrity. The least used leadership behaviors included fostering teamwork and motivating others.
The first leadership behavior I’m going to review is to provide direction. In order to provide direction to team members the leader must understand the mission and goals of the organization. Leaders must make sure to identify clear job roles with using job titles, responsibilities of duties through job descriptions and the standards of practices through organizational policies offering a written format of how to provide services, and sufficient hands on training with a preceptor. To provide direction on a daily bases managers can use assignment sheets that list all clients organized in a clear manner and list background information, emergency information such as code status and what level of care the client is to receive.
The second leadership behaviors is to lead courageously. In order to lead courageously leaders have to be willing to take a risk. Courageous leaders take on new challenges and encourage team members to give feedback.

Covey list seven habits that increase the effectiveness of one’s character. These habits include be productive, begin with the end in mind, part first things first, seek to understand then be understood, think win/win, synergize, sharpen the saw. “Habits 1 through 3 make up the “private victory” - where we go from dependence to independence by taking responsibility for our own lives. Acquiring habits 4 through 6 is our “public victory”: Once independent, we learn to be interdependent, to succeed with other people. The seventh habit makes all the others possible - periodically renewing ourselves in mind body, and spirit.”(Covey,

If you want your subordinates to have a strong work ethic a leader must practice the same, by setting the example in order for others to follow, (Kouzes and Posner, 2012). As a leader you must be willing to roll up your sleeves and put forth the effort, your actions will set the pace, (Kouzes and Posner, 2012).…

Wes Moore’s leadership attributes are not specific to him. Instead, such attributes as courage, reverence, and loyalty are prevalent in all leaders in society. These characteristics, and more, are all included in the Boy Scouts of America Scout Law: trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent (BSA 2016). The reason the Boy Scouts were acknowledged directly is because I am an Eagle Scout. To me a person who is a leader leads by example. Ever since I was in middle school I have tried to always do the right thing and guide my peers into a direction that is best for them. Since coming to Woodberry my Freshman year I feel as though I have grown stronger in this trait. One example that stands out particularly is when I was on the Bengal football team, and it was a scorching day early on in the year. It seemed as though everybody had a terrible day, and it was looking like we were having a horrible practice.…

Covey speaks of an experience at the Harvard business School where and instructor demonstrated how two people can have a different outlook, yet both be right. Two variations of the same picture were given to two sides of the classroom and asked what was seen, both sides had different answers. The students argued and neither side could come to an agreement that both arguments were correct; except for a few students who tried to see the alternate perspective.…
