In The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens many habits can be applied to a highschool freshman such as habit 1, habit 3, and habit 7. Habit 1: Be proactive, can be applied to a high school freshman because most teens tend to blame their mistakes on others instead of facing the consequences of their actions. This habit explains that we are in control of how we react to certain things. We can either be reactive or proactive. On page 151 the author, Sean Covey states, “I’m responsible for my own happiness or unhappiness.” Freshman and teens in general don’t realize that they can choose whether to react in a negative or positive way. We tend to blame our grades on teachers when we didn’t try as hard as we could have , and tend to blame other students for fighting or starting an argument when we were in control of how we wanted to react to it. This habit helps us realize that we shouldn’t blame others for how we reacted.
Habit 3: Put first things first, can be applied to a freshman in various ways. “It’s about learning to prioritize and manage your time.”(pg. 303) Since

This habit explains how we need to know how to balance our things instead of show focusing on one thing. While staying up all night to finish school work freshman get less sleep which later affects how they will be the next day. Habit 7 explains that if you don’t take the time to better yourself and just continue to pile up things how will you ever improve? “You need time out to rejuvenate the best thing you’ve got going out for yourself--you!” Being balanced is a better way to organize yourself and maintain stress free while entering high school.
