The setting in Richard Connell's short story “The Most Dangerous Game” is very essential to the plot. For example, General Zaroff made a false channel for boats to ensure that he is supplied with prey to hunt. There are so many huge, menacing rocks around the island; passengers are happy to to pass through the channel that the general constructed. As Zaroff tells rainsford about the channel he built, “‘ They indicate a channel… where there’s none; giant rocks with razor edges crouch like a sea monster with wide open jaws’’’(8).
