Personal Narrative: My Experience With Holiday Inn

Superior Essays
The service organization that I received training by was the Holiday Inn; I was hired to work at the front desk. I have worked in a couple different service jobs, but this particular one required training that I had never experienced before. After I got hired I had to complete various training exercises: video demonstrations, role plays, housekeeping duties, computer program test, tour of the building, and phone conversations. I had to pass each exercise in order to be on the schedule. There were aspects of the training that I found enjoyable and helpful, yet some were difficult and incomplete.
Overview

I had a hard time understanding these concepts; I think if more time was spent on the explanation it would have helped. Stacks (2007) states, “The most significant way to generate more money through your front-desk staff is a good working knowledge of yield- and revenue-management concepts.” (Stacks, 2007, p.18). I think by explaining these concepts employees can better sell rooms and bring in revenue. Personally, I felt that they didn’t touch base on this concept and I was left in the dark. I has to learn as I went and ask questions when I didn’t know. However, I think they could save some time by explaining these concepts while training that way employees go in with the knowledge. Stacks (2007) also states, “A revenue or yield strategy should always be in forced at the front desk in relation to the revenue and occupancy goals of the hotel. Front desk staff should be empowered to yield rate during low demand periods to build and maintain revenue per available room.” (Stacks, 2007, p.18). By implementing explanation of the concepts and revenue or yield strategies they could solve this

Personally I don't work on the road. I do know several RVers that do work at Wal-Marts as they travel. You probably have this one on your list or have seen and/or heard of it - filling different shapes of bottles with different colors of sand. The reason I mention it is because I worked with 3 guys that each did it, individually that is, at fairs and festivals.…

I would visit Applebee’s again for several reasons; it is affordable, causal, and the food is really good. As a college student, the first thing that I consider before eating out is how affordable the place is. Compared to Olive Garden, I would say that this restaurant is a lot less formal, less costly, and a lower food quality. Overall, my experience was fun and enjoying because I felt relaxed sitting, laughing, and eating with my friends. When come back next time, I may try a dessert.…

On Thursday, October 12th, I took the opportunity to help at the Agua Caliente Casino’s College Fair event, with the intention that I would also see the schools I intend to apply. While at the event, I saw many colleges and universities with their luring stands’ free candies, pens, and informational brochures. Overall, the schools all had something great to offer; whether it was the small class sizes or amazing student abroad programs. Although universities from as far as Hawaii to Oregon may have grabbed my attention – because of its stunning scenery and programs – I restricted my preferences to California schools. In particular, my eyes lit up when I saw UC Irvine, UC Riverside, CSU Channel Islands, – given that I’ve seen some of these see…

I also know that they are driven on finding employees from within and helping to coaching and promoting them into a role that would help them grow into a role that would fit them. The skills the employee would have to possess is being able to listen, knowing how to address the public and basic customer service skills, experience training individuals to work with…

Although I am embarrassed to tell this story, for it screams massive class and racial privilege, I guess it will be another step in the acceptance of my innate privilege and social status. A few weeks ago, I had the chance to hang out with a high school buddy of mine, whom I had not seen in a while. He texted me asking if I was interesting in making a trip to the L’auberge Casino, for his girlfriend had just recently turned twenty-one and was interested in trying out her new legal freedom. I had not been to the casino since my twenty-first birthday, about ten months ago, so I decided that playing with the slot machines would not hurt. As the time to leave came, I hopped in my car, left my house, located in a subdivision on Staring Lane,…
