Yes, my goal the entire service learning project at Lighthouse was to have a unique experience where I was able to build strong relationships with the children I was working with. I used influencing others in order to mainly help the younger kids with simple behavioral issues. I used the skill of valuing the uniqueness in others a lot because Lighthouse is a very diverse group of children, and if you are not supportive of everyone’s unique characteristics in a positive way, then you can have a negative effect on their self-confidence. Throughout my entire service learning project, I would say that I had to use the skill of responding with empathy the most. Almost all of the children at Lighthouse have very difficult backgrounds whether that means they come from a one parent family or that they are struggling with money. It was very hard for me to relate with all of these issues, and tell them that everything was going to be ok when I had never actually experienced any of their issues
