James C. Hunter’s book, “The Servant” is a really powerful and motivational book because it contains life-changing lessons that are easy to understand. The most interesting thing from the book is the servant leadership model. Hunter suggests that in order to earn the right and respect to be called a true leader, it is important to build authority, which is built on service and sacrifice, which is only achieved on the foundation of love and will.
In order to start developing my skills to be a good leader, first, I should start by aligning my intentions with my actions because that is how will is created and enforced. For example, in business, the mission and vision of the business does not always align with the actions. As result, the people do not believe the vision and mission, so they lose respect and motivation because they do not see a purpose to their contribution in business. Being a good leader means that the mission and vision, the intention of the company, align with its actions, making sure all the people working for that mission and vision know their purpose and contribution to achieve them. Leading with authority causes positive impacts. For example, Hunter mentioned several examples of people that really built authority even when they did not have any power.
