The Serenity: My Observation At Waseca High School

The Serenity “Your marching technique is one of the strongest in the band, but your musicality leaves something to be desired,” sighed my band director. I left my tenth-grade memory assessment feeling flustered by overwhelming expectations that I was not fulfilling. Coming from a family of dedicated musicians, and a school where the band program is a fundamental extra-curricular activity, I felt misplaced. Through a journey of decisions, engagement in new environments, failure, and inner triumph, however, I was able to overcome these boundaries and propel myself into a future of unknowing success. It started one year prior when the influence of a close friend pushed me to learn how to play the flute. After a compelling conversation with my parents, they were thrilled to invest towards “the enrichment of my musical ability”. I visited our local music store, purchased a gleaming Yamaha model, and then enrolled myself in the prided core activity at Waseca High School. With high hopes, I set forward on a venture that would undoubtedly test my limitations. The struggle I encountered, though, was greater than what was anticipated. Fortunately, I reside in this universe, where I took an adverse situation and used it as ammunition for success. Leading the underclassmen as first chairmen, I uncovered a truth about myself. Thriving to excel in everything I do, I took God’s gifts for granted. Playing the flute is difficult, especially when you are engaged in a community full of people who find it very easy. But everyone has their niche. If God had intended for me to become a famous musician, he would have given me the skills to do so.
