A comparative analysis between two types of Dramas, comedy and Tragedy
Drama is set up differently depending on the producer and the intention of the drama. However, when one is dealing with the text, it is important to consider that there a big difference between dramatic text and poetry or narrative. Accordingly, this is because among other purposes, dramas are written to be played on stage. However, it is critical to acknowledge that there are different types of dramas. The two major genres of drama include comedy and tragedy. In literature, comedy is a type of drama that is characterized by its happy and lively ending. The major purpose of comedy is to evoke humor and enjoyment in the audience. “The Importance of Being Earnest” is one of the greatest comedy dramas. The title itself looks ironic since no one in the play is ready, to tell the truth about various events (Wilde 89). For instance, most of them are not telling their real names, where they have been, among other important details. At the opening of the play, Jack has formed a convenient younger brother known as Ernest. The surprising thing is that the audience does not know why he decides to use such a name. Essentially, while no one in the play is called Ernest, everybody in the play pretends to be Ernest. Therefore, the title of the play can be considered ironical. On the other hand, there is nothing ironical about the title “Oedipus the King,” rather it is self-explanatory. The writer of the play did not beat around the bush in looking for a name that will suit the drama. In this case, Oedipus is the protagonist and the king. Thus, we can conclude that the writer used the most suitable title for this
