She was forced to rely on public restrooms. This is disturbing how could she live? Me and all the members of my family have access to 200 litres of water per day while she has to rely on public restrooms. How did her kids live in those conditions? For Marcus, and me our children were important, both the girls and the boys, even if he preferred the boys. I remember when they were young we prioritized their education. My daughter enjoyed a similar, if not the same education as my boy. Since we were a rich family our daughter continued her education, not like the girls of middle class families who stopped their education at the primary level. My daughter was taught in the fineries Greek and Latin literature as well as how to play a lyre, to dance and sing. She has become an educated woman. Thus, marriage that Marcus arranged for her when she was very young could finally take place. Marcus arranged a marriage with the son of very rich senators, thus this union could only increase and enforce the strength of my family. Until the day of the marriage, she could not have a contact or worst case flirt with a boy as it could ruin all the marriage

Oedipus fears for his daughters because their reputation has been destroyed due to Oedipus’ crimes of murder and incest. His worries towards his daughters and not his sons reflect how it was believed that “men are better able to take care of themselves than women” (Nassaar). He believes that his daughters will constantly face “bitterness” and will not be able to “attend” any town events or festivals “without being forced to depart…in tears” (Sophocles exodus.255-258). Even though Oedipus cries over the pain his daughters will feel due to these judgments, his chief concern seems to be that they will not marry. He asks “whom can you ever marry?…

Marriage and family formation are seen as important life transitions in this respect. Marriage embeds individuals within a network of extended family and friends, and child bearing and home ownership are associated with greater levels of neighbourhood attachment and involvement (Glezer 1997: 9).
