The Self-Driving Car Industry

An increasing amount of people is afraid of using self-driving car because of different kinds of security concerns. In fact, some research showed that people would care about their privacy because of the connecting Internet. Steinmetz (2016) reported that most of the self-driving car users are afraid of their data breach if their car were connected to the Internet. 55% of respondents would be worried about the safety of their privacy data. In addition, Jaconi (2015) explained that equipment can be controlled from anyplace in the entire world. Most of the users think if the vehicle connected with the computer or the Internet one day, it will not be safe. In fact, some research showed that many different kinds of industry will be hurt in the future because of the development of self-driving car. Vella and Steinmetz (2016) explained that there is a survey in last summer from KPMG claim that the auto-insurance industry could decline less than 40% in next 25 years because of the self-driving car. Some people might think the self-driving car is safer than the human-driven car. However, this belief fails to consider the fact that the insurance industry will be hurt because the self-driving car is safer. For example, Ferenstein (2015) pointed out that the premiums in the self-driving car are much lower than the human-driven car. Ferenstein shows the premium is $1942 in the Tesla Model S if the car is the human-driven car, compared with the self-driving car that is $388 in Graph 1. Those two different car systems influence the price of the premiums a lot. The self-driving car industry will bring negative effect to some people. In addition, although self-driving car can bring a lot of advantages and convenience for people, but it also cause many negative images for other people. For instance, Vella and Steinmetz go on to explain that in the future there is more machine-centric street designs because of the development of the self-driving car. This situation will make other people who don't use driverless cars feel uncomfortable. Some people against the development of self-driving car because they probably will lose their jobs.
