Oppression then starts to make people struggle when really this is not necessary. There are laws that protect people from discrimination based on race, religion, and sex, but there aren’t well-enforced laws that help people that are discriminated against based on ones sexual orientation. For example “Although federal laws protect people from workplace discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, religion, sex, age, and disability, there is no federal law that specifically outlaws workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in the private sector” (nolo). The right to have same sex marriage is determined by state (Belge). Kathy Belge writes that “Most states have passed laws that explicitly exclude same-sex couples from marrying and there is a proposed Constitutional Amendment to try and make the definition of marriage between a man and a woman”. Some people say that allowing gay marriage is lessens the validly of straight couples marriages, and that marriage is for creating and raising kids and that children are better in a household that is ran by a man and women (Belge). When it comes to gay marrage there are reasons for people to be legally married. For example “David Wilson was treated as a stranger by a hospital emergency department when is partner of thirteen years has a heart attack, and died. David’s current partner Robert Compton, has health problems which require emergency care and the are concern that the earlier experience may be repeated” (citation). This is sad because these people believe that they should be treated as family to their partners but experiences like these are happening when people cant make their relationship
