Walter Mitty Movie Vs Book

“Reading a good book is like taking a journey…” Emma Gulliford. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is definitely a journey, both book, written by James Thurber, and movie form. The movie, while action-packed, emotional, heroic, and well-developed in a flowing manner, is very different from the short story that is filled with different expressions of personality and a lot less developed, but all in all both fantastic and attention grabbing. While the movie and the short story are named the same thing, the movie was drastically better. The daydreams in both the movie and the short story were very different. Firstly, the short story started in a daydream while the movie started in a real scene. The first line in the short story is, “‘We’re going through!’ The Commander’s voice was like thin ice breaking.” On the other hand, the movie starts with Walter trying to send a wink to his crush and it isn’t working. Next, in the movie, he was saving his girl, showing off, getting his girl, and saving her, all being heroic, and the short story was being guilty in a trial, being a doctor, and being in war, more than just heroism being presented there. The movie had a climax, this lead to the cause of conflict being have thrown away an important wallet. “‘Where’s the slide?’ ‘In your wallet.’” The short story ended in a possible climax or possible outcome, but it ended in a daydream, not giving you much to go off of. The last line in the story was, “... Walter Mitty, the undefeated, inscrutable to the last,” then it’s over. Just like that. The short story’s, “... inscrutable to the last,” compared to the movie having Walter walking, hand in hand, with the girl he was trying to get the whole movie.
