The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty By James Thurber

My experience with short stories is pretty mild. I have read some short stories in my under grad from some of my professors that were pretty good. One short story that I do love so much is The secret life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber. I can read this story a million times and never get tired of reading it. I do not think I have ever read a novel in story before but I am sure I will in this class. I think that the opportunity the novel in story form can offer me is a chance to write different stories, fiction or non-fiction, which I can connect in some way. There are many stories I have in my life that were happing at the same time from my point of view and from another’s point of view that I can write about and I think novel in story

When it comes to racial crimes and segregation there is nothing more depressing than talking about how many times our world has been through it. It has happened throughout our entire lives and sadly it still happens today. The devastation and violence from these acts have shaped the way our society is and it’s not necessarily good. As a white male I can’t say I have ever been part of any minority group, but as a white female in South Africa during the 1960s you could say it was quite shocking to be on the opposite side. In the book The Unlikely Secret Agent by Ronnie Kasrils a woman, Eleanor was living amongst the South African Apartheid.…

Is spyware a good idea to keep your kids safe from dangerous chatters online? Harlan Coben, author of “The Undercover parent”, discusses that spyware may not be such a bad idea. Although it may sound like a good idea, there might be some invasion of privacy. I agree and disagree with Coben’s argument about putting spyware in your kids computer. From my point of view, I do and I don’t think it’s a good idea to keep your kids safe by putting spyware in their computer.…

My Favorite Short Story So far the story I like the most is “Hostage” by Joyce Carol Oates. The reason this is my favorite story so far because it is suspenseful. A way it is suspenseful is when she got taken by the guy no one had a clue what was going to happen next. In the story it shows a suspense part it says “By now the librarian from the sound adult room had emerged, and another women was poking her head around the corner…”(Oates1207). That shows that the lady didn't know what was going to happen.…

A Music Difference Music is personal and full of emotions. Therefore everyone has their own opinion on what is considered a good music genre. As for movies and their soundtrack albums overall, a great movie soundtrack comes down to the theme it creates, how it moves people emotionally, the use of songs with lyrics or without lyrics, and the use of covers or remixes. Composers like Theodore Shapiro use music to make movies more alive and have a deeper impression. Shapiro used his talent as a music director to make a memorable soundtrack for the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty making it number 57th on best sold movie soundtracks on Amazon and 39th on iTunes.…

In James Thurber’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the author’s convulsive focus on the dynamic impacts of the abrupt settings, unreasonably complexes the fluidity of the story by misleading the reader on the current plot of Mitty’s life verses the settings conjured by his imagination in the story. Furthermore his use and examples of location, metaphors and imagery also leaves the description and development of the character to the reader’s imagination which while might make it easier to digest the story, it takes away from the importance and point of the story with the general viewpoint of Mitty’s character would be seen as underdeveloped, dull and childish. The use of and depictions of imagery draw away the attention of the reader by constantly changing the scenery before the reader can fully comprehend what has and will take place later on in the story.…

The story that I did was Breaker’s Dilemma and I think my personal connection to that story is that I have gotten random emails or texts that says subscribe to us or have you looked at our new product. And I usually ignore then in which that is what I did in that story. And I used the decisions in that story to relate to what happened to me in real life. Most of the decisions that I made in the story did relate to my life because there was a girl trying to flirt with Breaker and that has happened to me with a boy then I tried to ignore it then they just kept sending me text so I soon reported it to have the person stop.…

Throughout history, mankind has proven to never stray away from the act of sinning. Humans remain corrupt and greedy while struggling to discover the true quintessence of life, leaving society in a state of conformity to accepted values. During the 19th century, Romantic texts flourished through American literature causing people to self-reflect and consider the more important matters in life. However, societal failings written by authors at the time still remain in modern America. In Edgar Allen Poe 's, Sonnet to Science, he stresses that if facts over intuition continues to flourish then we will lose our creative mind.…

Literacy Narrative I did a lot of writing while I was in the tenth grade. The English teacher I had at the time was the best when it came down to writing. I did not have too much interest in writing at the time but Mrs. Perez changed that, she gave me a new perception on writing and how it can change society. Mrs. Perez would always recommend really good books, one of which was a book called “His Dark Materials”. This story is about a young girl and her allies, fight for the discover of a dark substance called the “Dust”.…
