A group appeared from the darkness lead by a tall man wearing all black while carrying a mace upon his hefty shoulders. He was followed by a parade of priests and two prisoners on there way to execution. The one called Peppino was suntanned and handsome while the other Andrea was short and fat. As the men climbed the steps both could be seen shuddering and kissing crosses.

Suddenly a penitent bust threw the ranks of soldiers just as Peppino was being payed at the foot of the guillotine. The man pulled out a long scroll and began to read, "Peppino, alias Rocca Priori, has been pardoned! Peppino cried out in joy as Andrea stood there dumbfounded by the Pope's decision. This whole story is one elaborate Christian parallel. This is an example of an Eden story, based off of the one from Genesis in the Bible. In the story, Giovanni can be seen as a Christian who is facing the tests just as Adam and Eve did in the Garden of Eden (Garden), and the failure to do the right thing even though God (in this case Baglioni) told them to, and Satan (Beatrice) was their downfall (102). The story ends with the death of Beatrice, which then leaves Giovanni to live a life that is miserable, much like life after Eve sinned and ate the fruit.…

Wilson, “Changes will come slowly, across generations, because old beliefs die hard even when demonstrably false.” My journey of being astute began when my grandmother took me to a saint.…
