Home is a place where a person feels buoyant or even content enough to perceive home as the locale that they want to spend the rest of their life in. The Bildungsroman novel, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Mon Kidd, the protagonist of the novel, Lily realizes that home is where she no longer lives in solidarity but rather in a loving community. Lily’s home is the pink house with the calendar sister because they cherish Lily and make her feel loved. Lily becomes more independent from realizing that her old home is not where she is meant to be and that she must rebel and go to Tiburon. For instance, her rebellion starts out when she breaks Rosaleen out resulting in Lily fibbing her way to Tiburon. Loving Zack also gives her independence as much as it does self-realization, because she realizes who she likes and she is independent enough to go against society and like a black boy. As the story progresses, the calendar sisters also help her realize the importance of faith (Daughters of Mary), love and family. All three aspects help Lily become aware that the Pink house is her real home that shares the love and kindness as well as the protectiveness from a family, which she receives when she was confronted with T-Ray. At a point in her time at the pink house, Lily becomes revolting after realizing that her mother left her behind and Lily channels her frustration out by breaking honey jars in the honey house. This form of relief aides Lily in realizing that her life is now full of love and family. Lily decides to settle in the pink house because of the home feeling that she receives from the pink house that Lily did not find in her old home in
