When they awake they go in look of food and snuff for Rosaleen. When Lily is buying their food she spots “Black Mary” on a jar of honey and ask the store manager who the lady is. He points her to August Boatwright’s house. Lily lies to August explaining that she is now an orphan looking for aunt but her and her nanny have to place to stay and very little information on the aunt they are looking for. The Boatwright sisters own a honey company which Lily helps them with when she is with them. She starts to realize how much the bees resemble her life. They are in these crates like she was stuck at T. Rays house. They are controlled by one authority figure just like T. Ray was the boss and she didn't go against what he said. And lastly, how the bees were surrounded by female “mother like” bees but only looked up to one who they were controlled by. Just like Lily looked up to her dead mother who in the end still controlled her life even though she wasn't on Earth.Throughout their stay at the Boatwright's house Lily starts to grow and form into a proper young lady. Racism is something that starts to play a role in Lily’s life when she explains to people that she is staying in a house with four African American ladies. Lily has to learn the hard way that life isn't far and won't treat you better than others because you are prettier,
