When she got married and had children she never wanted her children to feel the same way she did as a child. Before getting married she made sure she was marrying someone with a less dangerous job than her father and moved to a much calmer area. Also, she wanted to prepare her children for loss so when something happened they would be able to cope with it unlike when the mother was a child. The story mainly shows how the mother was able to overcome the painful, child loss of Fred. The author Means uses parallelism as a form of symbolism throughout the short story to show how the Fish’s was able to survive the challenges along with the mother’s challenges in regards to herself and the domestic relationship she was in. As the Fish was first introduced in the story the mom and dad had a happy loving marriage. Later in the story it was revealed the dad was having an affair. Eventually the mother was unable to deal with her infidelity to their marriage. This is the time when Fish was not having his tank cleaned

This is a story with plenty of explanations of how we are shaped as human beings and would probably be recommended for advice about this topic. It is about a man who is loving, caring and always trying to help someone besides himself. He had three wishes from his pet goldfish for that anything he wished for would guaranteed come true. Instead of wishing for foreseeable things, he wished for more phenomenal and greater things that the average person wouldn’t wish for. I. Home as refuge/protection In Ode to my Mother’s Hair by Joseph Legaspi and The Road Back by Pak Chesam, home is expressed as a matter of refuge and protection. The two poems are similar in the fact that “home” is defined as a symbolic figure, which is the mother. For example, in the poem Ode to my Mother’s Hair, the comparison of the mother’s hair as “dark as cuttlefish ink,” (Legaspi 9) signifies a mother’s natural instinct when danger is sensed. This analogy provides a vivid imagery on a mother’s character in that they would defend and protect, like a cuttlefish secreting ink, when danger lurks.…
