The Secret Annex Character Analysis

"In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart." This quote was written by Anne Frank several months before she perished in the concentration camps. Despite being in such conditions, she was optimistic. The young girl that Anne was, she looked at the world with rose-colored glasses. Curiosity and determination in her personality had resulted in the conclusion of that quote. Though she did have some disputes with the residents of the annex, she was thoughtful and cared about them. The experience in the Annex had changed her view of the world.

In the play written in the Collection Book, page 290, lines 637-641, when the Frank family went into hiding, Anne exclaimed, "You know the way I'm going to think of it here? I'm going to think of it as a boarding house. A very peculiar summer boarding house..." This shows that she is indubitably optimistic. Instead of pondering about the atrocious future that may dawn upon them if the Nazis apprehend them, she related the situation to a jubilant moment she had in the past. At such moments, she could establish the best out of the situation. In Anne's diary, she was describing the "Secret Annex" that was above her father's office building, as if it was a magnificent apartment,

Through all the hardships they had been through. The two years they had been hiding in the Annex. Their time in the Annex uncovered many sides to people. Not just one part of them, but all parts. This caused Anne to realize that the people, no matter how they acted or what they said, have objectives they must achieve.
