Chinua Achebe selected the title of his book which is ‘Things Fall Apart” (3) form The Second Coming due to the thematic connections between the two texts. Things Fall Apart discusses the effects and influences of European colonization on traditional values of the Igbo culture. It also examines Okonkwos perceptions that destiny is encoded with chaotic outcomes, and this is proved when the novel is concluded with the end of Igbos and Okonwos death. “The center cannot hold” (3) was mentioned in Yeats poem, but in terms of the novel it refers to the fact that Okonkwos world has literally fallen apart because of European influences on the Igbos society. In terms of the poem, Yeats indicates the fact that World War One has caused conflict in his society, and everything has fallen apart because of the invasions.
