The Seafarer Vs Beowulf Essay

Most of us at one point in our lives have felt alone. We felt happy maybe in a certain place but not like we used to be. The Seafarer, lets us know that even though he is more alone out on sea than in the city he likes it better. The Wanderer, makes us think of what we do in order to keep ourselves happy. Unlike the Seafarer where he chose to be all alone, The Wife's Lament has no choice but to be alone. In a society where men run the women and the aren't seen as anybody without a man. Each of these dramatic monologues will show us a side of the Anglo-Saxons much different than Beowulf. The Seafarer feels alone, out on the sea with the women and the children left behind. He would rather be out on sea than in the city though. In a way it makes him happy, it´s what he enjoys as he ages and has to find a way to be happy. Why would he want to be out at sea ? The weather is stinking cold, he could get wet so it makes the temperature worse! He did it because he chose it, he might be lonely but he´s doing something. ¨Exile is not a time frame. It’s like their actions and words do not matter unless the other person is there to “represent” them. Along with The Seafarer and The Wanderer, The Wife’s Lament is also written in the Exeter book with the time of the vikings. Women were not seen as women in the 10th century and so on. She was disowned by her own husband and she didn’t have anywhere to go and she wasn’t anyone to anybody. No one should have to face difficulties and the world all alone like she did. In the end the ones that do go out alone might gain revenge and hate towards certain people. They also gain independence and become stronger. Simply because they only have themselves to depend
