At first glance, Munch portrayed and painted what he felt alongside what he say in nature. Munch uses a series of bold lines, both straight and curved, drawing in the viewer to feel the intense emotions being brought out by The Scream. The figure in the painting is in the forefront right to give more emphasis to the painting’s mood. Seemingly the implied lines of the road tend to flow towards the figure as well as the fence’s line are larger near the figure. The strong curved lines of the figure are a type and shadow of the sky in the background. The landscape in the background also has implied curved lines to encourage a sense of movement in the piece. From my perspective, The Scream envokes the viewer into the heaviness of the emotion of the figure through the usage of implied lines and straight lines.
