The Science Of Success David Dobbs Summary

Decent Essays
Nature can affect how someone acts in various ways. In other words, the genetics that someone was born with can affect the way someone’s behavior is. In the article “ The Science of Success”, the author, David Dobbs, uses a metaphor to help explain the personalities of people who may be influenced by the genetics they were born with. David states in the article “most of us have genes that make us as hardy as dandelions: able to take root and survive almost anywhere. A few of us, however, are more like the orchid: fragile, but capable of blooming spectacularly if given greenhouse care.” What David means by this is some people are fragile like an orchid, but if they are given the correct environment to be in, the “orchid” can grow up to be spectacular.

As Brink Lindsey states in his article “Culture of Success,” the main reason why many low-income high school graduates do not go to college is based on how they were raised, like how much time the parents/guardians. Though I can identify how we could make this assumption under unreliable statistics, however I strongly disagree with the idea of how well you raise your children is solely dependent on your family's income. As a young scholar, I find Lindsey’s article to be interesting and not helpful, but it is not something that I would aimlessly call fact. Brink Lindsey starts his article by addressing the problems on why people are not going to college. The author explains that the problem was started from our culture progressing too…

The common denominator of success, according to the article The Common Denominator of Success written by Albert E.N. Gray, lies simply in forming the habit to do the very things that many others do not like to do. Success is only obtained by those who have established or discovered the secret of purpose. This does not imply that men succeed because they are hardworking, although this may be a requirement. This means that success is drawn from what made or drove men to become successful, not necessarily what they did to obtain that success. Company A, agrees with Mr. Gray’s assessment of the common denominator of success.…
