What good is education if we use it to disguise our society that is crumbling right in front of our eyes and not being able to see it because we follow these so called “educated men”. This is what Martin Luther King Jr. had to struggle with and tried to get this message across with his speech “The Purpose of Education” to a group of students in Morehouse College. Martins point of view on what education should be is, “ Intelligence plus character--that is the goal of true education.” We should all strive to have this mindset in our educational careers but what does intelligence plus character actually mean?Intelligence plus character is to be more effective by having real goals for your life, to think logically and scientifically, and to think intensively and critically with efficiency.…

In “Against School,” John Gatto argues that the main purpose of public schools and the educational system in general is to produce a “manageable” populace. Gatto argues that the current educational system does this by slowly acclimating students into certain habits, confirming students to certain rules, and implementing a certain mindset into students that makes them respond well to authority. All of these things that Gatto argues adds up to make a system for training a complaint workforce. Firstly, schools achieve what Gatto states their purpose is by acclimating students to how factories are organized and what working in a factory is like. Secondary, schools also accomplish Gattos argument by restricting the class choices of students and…

America's standard of public education has fallen into a deep decline over the last decade. School should be better constructed to teach kids how to prepare for adult life and the real world. Many of the things taught today in school have little to no value to students after they graduate. Curriculum should involve very crucial life skills such as people skills, critical thinking, and financial management. Our Education System barely does anything to cater to those needs, which sets kids up for failure later in life.…

Why?-The Purpose of Education The purpose of education has changed over time. Let’s take a look how views on the purpose of education have evolved over time. Education in our schools is our own responsibility and is what I view as a big aspect of what our future is going to look like. Learning is not only important in school, but it is important to learn from others so we can get a different aspect of things, even if they aren’t specifically what is considered right to believe in. Like I said earlier, we are a country built on freedom and everyone has the right to have their own opinion. Lastly, we can learn from our families. Some of the greatest’s lessons taught come from someone in the family that can be held onto for a whole lifetime.…

The purpose of public education should be to give students a free and equal education. While I do believe that public education provides an abundant education for some, I also believe it hinders and holds back others. Public education gives students a free and unequal education. Education today, in my opinion, is not doing what it should be doing to ensure that America is actually living up to what it is known for...the land of opportunities. I believe that education should be about an empowering experience that helps students discover their passions, fosters their critical thinking skills, promotes an environment that accepts diversity, and encourages students to apply to skills to the outside world. This should be he purpose of American public schooling because it will help society adapt to changing times and encourage the growth of a well-rounded, modern, and accepting culture which in the long run help foster peace and equality. I am sure that there are many schools in America that try and foster all of things,…
