According to Merriam Webster’s dictionary definition, Sociology is the scientific analysis of a social institution as a functioning whole and as it relates to the rest of society (Sociologist). This means it is the study of social problems, society, and how individuals work together in macro and micro levels. Sociology is a stimulating and enlightening field of study that questions and explains important matters in personal lives, societies, and the world. As stated by the College of Arts and Sciences, this field unites the study of several subjects for the purpose of understanding how human action and awareness both form and are shaped by surrounding cultural and social structures (What). Creating a career in this field may be difficult, simply because there are so many options. Narrowing down the choices all depends on the individual wants and drive for a future career. As stated earlier, there are many topics such as religion, crime, medical, and even biological sociology. Throughout history all of those fields were brought to attention by the fathers of sociology.
