Woodbridge Middle School Critical Analysis

Rusty, dark, and tight is what can describe Woodbridge Middle School, a school that is one hundred six years old and is evident by how the school is taken care of, or lack of. Students spend a significant amount of time at school and should feel excited and comfortable to be there. The problem with having schools that are not receiving proper care while there are schools that are well off is that they receive more assistance which results in an unequal balance of resources being distributed. Yet these schools that get the short end of the stick learn to work with what they have, but if one thinks of that mentality that might not get the school working full speed ahead. With more financial help, a school like this can work on having more classrooms, one teacher a class, more space for students and space for the teachers themselves. There is also poor lighting going …show more content…
In Woodbridge Middle School students are just writing what is on the board, not asking questions, and in the end would ask so many questions, but only when it was during a test. Teachers for the most part would go through the lesson plan fairly quickly despite having an hour and twenty minutes, being that the school follows a block schedule. Thus as previously mentioned schools that are not receiving sufficient amount of resources/care can in fact relate to teacher quality and how they carry out their lesson. Teachers are just focusing on getting through the curriculum and doing all they have to do rather than ensure that the students understand the concepts being taught. In relation to teachers going through curriculum fast, teachers do not establish a friendly relationship with their students. The relationship can be strictly related to teacher-student which can impact how students interact with each other as well. For example, if it was that a teacher interacted with students solely through the curriculum then students

Not getting enough class time to ask questions? Well that is why I think high school classes are too big. We never get enough one on one with the teachers, so if you're not understanding the lesson then you have to try and figure it out yourself. We don’t get enough one on one because everyone else is playing around and not paying attention, so that leads to no one learning anything. No one learns anything because no one is paying much attention, because everyone is talking and not even acknowledging the teacher and that she is trying to teach a lesson.…

I teach "Introduction to Literature" and "Standard Freshman Composition" courses at Suffolk County Community College. I personally design both of my courses, which adhere to the mission statement of the college. In "Introduction to Literature," my students engage in imaginative works of literature, analyze major literary themes and forms, continue training in effective prose writing skills, and demonstrate maturity and thought and style when deconstructing literary elements such as image, plot, character, theme, and conflict. In "Standard Freshman Composition," I prepare my students to produce quality work that utilizes writing techniques, analyzes reading material, and incorporates research techniques that will aide them in their academic future. The outcomes of this course are for the student to be able to construct a central purpose in their expository work, to have coherent organization, improved writing mechanics, to formulate effective thesis statements that demonstrate complex thought, and to integrate relevant, cited sources into their work.…
