I have found that it is usually worst in the mornings and during instructional time. He misses out on the lesson, which causes him to struggle with the assignment that goes with it. Jordan has received a score of zero for several assignments for this nine weeks. I believe his late work and inability to concentrate in class are results of his attention seeking behavior. My goal is to deliver positive attention in ways that are rewarding to him, without disrupting the class. One indicator that the guidance and behavioral plan worked for him is seeing an increase in homework being turned in on time. For instance, I will ensure that he receives positive attention throughout the day, especially when he is staying on task with completing his assignments. For instance, I will record how many times he engages in attention-seeking behavior that disrupts the classroom learning and how long it takes Mrs. Shuffield or myself to redirect him. These incidents will be written on an observational log sheet. The reward system that I will set up includes giving him the option of being the leader in group discussions, taking up homework, passing out papers, taking the lunch count to the office, or engaging in a classroom activity that gives him the chance to receive positive attention.
