The School-Based Speech-Language Pathologist

one of prerequisite to success at school is development communication skills. Receiving speech and language services is kind of the substantial supports for individuals to benefit from their education. The school-based Speech-Language Pathologist(SLP) plays an important role in education and his serves could be in the both teams the special education and general education.

SLPs may serve students directly or work with educators and parents to address communication and language needs. Speech-language pathologists aim to aid these individuals in improving communication in not only the context of therapy, but also to generalize these skills to home and community, among parent, friends, and community communication partners.

To increase this generalization and to increase the effectiveness of communication therapy and supports, there has been a shift within recent years to provide communication intervention within natural contexts (ASHA, 2005; National Joint Committee for the Communication Needs of Persons with Severe Disabilities, 1992). Natural environments are those specific situations in which the person communicates on a regular basis.
