To Whom This May Concern,

In response to your inquiry regarding why my name is listed as Audrey Tetreau on the OurCU account, I have attached my marriage certificate.

My name is still legally Audrey Englehart, however they changed my name to Audrey Tetreau on the account when I added John Tetreau to it.

Please let me know if there is anything else you need to prove this.

Thank you,

Audrey Englehart (Tetreau)

In the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the reader is introduced to Hester, a young woman that has committed adultery. Hester was a humiliation and disgrace to the Puritan society due to her sin. She is put on the scaffold to be humiliated in front of her town, then placed in jail. On page 64 it states, “Of an impulsive and passionate nature, she had fortified herself to encounter the stings and venomous stabs of public contumely, wreaking itself in every variety of insult…” This quote demonstrates the shame and degradation that she was put through.…

I think the quote is explaining how the people feel about Hester and the fact that her baby isn’t her husbands. They despise the fact that she committed adultery, and they know she should be punished for her crime. They also wish to know the baby’s true father, which Hester feigns away from, not wanting to tell anyone. The women in this community are extremely gossipy, wanting to know every tiny detail that they can about Hester and the baby. The book doesn’t even talk about the people, for the first two chapters it just talks about the setting, what everything around them looks like, not even the characters.…

“Don't misunderstand me: I don't want an affair” is as believable as Lisa trying to convince herself that she had no feelings when her ex-lover, Alden, calls her at school (“A Glimpse of Scarlet”, 41). She may not want an affair but it does not seem to be for the right reasons. She wants to avoid the embarrassment and getting caught by her husband “I could never have an affair here” (A Glimpse of Scarlet, 41). Lisa paints a picture of passion and excitement when explaining the affair from her first marriage in “A Glimpse of Scarlet” by Roxana Robinson. Lisa is able to start her life over again and she tries to avoid having to deal with her past life, including not telling her husband that her ex-lover called her.…

“Like father, like son” is a common expression that has been around as early as the 1300s. This phrase means that sons will always try and be act like their fathers, or unintentionally act like their fathers because of behavior exhibited throughout the son’s life . It could also be taken as most of the time sons and fathers look like one another. The expression “like father, like daughter” could be implied the same way for many fathers/daughters in the world. In the book The Scarlet Letter, however, this expression goes beyond physical appearances and behavior.…

Converse to the busy cover of option #1, option #2 has little happening, but each figure has a discrete meaning pertaining to the themes of “The Scarlet Letter”. The foremost pronounced thing in the art is the large red “A” which overshadows almost everything in the illustration. The overt letter correlates with the scarlet letter overshadowing Hester and dehumanizing her. The “A” chokes “all the light and graceful foliage of her character… leaving a bare and harsh outline” (Hawthorne 151). As the quote says, the letter takes what Hester is and overpowers it, making her no longer a human being worthy of compassion, but an outline only recognisable as the scarlet letter.…

Arjun Srivatsa Chad Hayden 12 October 2015 The Scarlet Letter Essay (2015 FRQ 3) The Scarlet Letter is a novel centered on contrasts. Contrasts between outward reputation and inner guilt, puritanical law and true sin, and intentions and actions, create a dynamic of hypocrisy, a hypocrisy that infects and slowly debilitates all those involved. Universal Truths of the Human Condition The Scarlet Letter, although written in the 1850’s, continues to speak truly about many universal truths of the human condition. The Novel displays all-consuming effects of guilt on a sinner and how it can be worse than the punishment itself, although religion can guide a person, it can not guide a government, and that no person is without sin. As displayed by Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale, guilt can affect a person worse than the punishment for the crime. After committing adultery, Dimmesdale attempts to keep it hidden from the community for fear of execution.…
