How Powerful People are Untruthful
History has witnessed many incidents where people who hold a type of power in the world become untruthful or do untruthful things. The list could recede on and on about how these untruthful acts were completed but they all have one common factor; power. Power seems to cause chaos in some minds and can provoke the most sinister things. Powerful people such as Mohammad Suharto a President of Indonesia, Bob Coy a former Pastor, and Arthur Dimmesdale the minister of The Scarlet Letter all used their power to produce untruthful things and lead others astray.

Being the minister in the 1840s, Dimmesdale had no choice but to be untruthful and hide his sin from the Puritan Community. Considering that a sin of this proportion was deemed so wrong during this time period, Dimmesdale continued on his normal life as if nothing had happened as Hester took all of the criticism for the crime. The power that he held in the church was so great that if his secret got out he felt that as everything would be lost. This lie that Dimmesdale carried around with him for so long eventually started to come back haunting him in the form of Chillingworth and Pearl. Everyday he would be tormented to tell the truth and everyday he would let it eat away at his heart and soul. Until finally after an enlightening talk with Hester about a possible start to a new life, he is able to release the truth to the community. Shocked at the truth that has finally came out, the community recoils and is left to see the farewell of Dimmesdale. The power that was once so important to Dimmesdale was all but a string keeping the lid closed on a well worn secret that needed to be
