A community consists of a group of individuals who occupy a certain area and are considered as part of society. In a community, people in that particular area work together despite hardships. They show constant support towards one another in time of need. People in a community show affection towards one another and should treat each other with great respect. The Scarlet Letter, published by Nathaniel Hawthorne transpires in a New England Puritan community in Boston, Massachusetts, a community strictly built upon the concept of law and religion. Hester Prynne is young woman who is condemned for committing the sin of adultery with Reverend Dimmesdale. As a community it is your duty to express concern and show understanding towards one another. The towns people could have better dealt with her punishment by offering Hester rehabilitation instead of alienating her to the outskirts of town. The way Hester’s community dealt with her sin was to embarrass and degrade that person. They lacked understanding and concern for Hester. Offering the sinner rehabilitation would bring open the eyes of the person with hopes of preventing the same situation. In addition, the community could show compassion and understanding to the sinner. The community should hear Hester’s reason for committing her sin. They should hear what Hester has to say about love and why she committed her sin. They shouldn’t judge Hester for her actions because she was acting off the emotion of love. Love is not something you can control and sometimes you act upon your emotions despite how immoral it may be. Love is inevitable. A community is a group of individuals who should stick together through everything through thick and thin. They should show constant support and compassion when in need and exhibit comfort and encouragement towards one
