“The Scarlet Ibis” is my favorite book, because it’s more emotional, adventurous, and more important to certain people. Most family oriented people will love this story, and anyone who enjoys a good miracle story. The foreshadowing and plot twists made the story really interesting and easy to follow. People who like emotionally based books won’t be bored reading it.
Brother, the narrator didn’t accept his younger brother Doodle, because he couldn’t walk, run, swim, or anything Brother would want to do with his new younger brother. He was ashamed of his sibling’s disability, so in his selfishness and boredom he tried to teach Doodle to walk. The story follows Doodle’s progress over the summer, and shows how the family bonds over his improvement.

The Scarlet Ibis In “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst, the colors are brilliantly displayed throughout the text to immerse the reader into this story. One of the biggest connections between in the book is the color red ,it is used often throughout the entire book and even connects to Doodle one of the characters in the book. For example ”Its a great big red bird” is a echo to Doodle as he was born being a very odd red. Another example of a connection is ”It tumbled down, bumping through the limbs of the bleeding tree and landing at our feet with a thud”.…

William Armstrong also known as Doodle, an innocent little boy that died. The argument is was the death a natural, an accident or was it his brother’s fault. I believe that Doodle’s death was his brother’s fault, because his brother showed a lot of cruelty towards Doodle, more than compassion. The reason are he only taught Doodle how to walk because he didn’t like his brother being “different”.…

Doodle has struggled with medical issues since birth and is largely dependent on the support and acceptance of his only sibling, who is referred to throughout the story as “Brother.” Brother is ashamed that he is related to an invalid younger brother, so he soon “began to make plans to kill [Doodle] by smothering him with a pillow” (417). Brother is more concerned about his own needs and wants that he is not able to realize that killing Doodle is not the solution to dealing with his frustration and disappointment of not having an ideal younger brother. Although Brother does not actually carry through with this plan, he instead makes it his duty to teach Doodle how to walk and run, even when that means overexerting him. His flaw here was that he initially viewed this task as a selfless act, but it was not until much later that he reflected back upon the moment and realized that it was done purely out of embarrassment.…
