The Scarlet Ibis Conflict Analysis

In “The Scarlet Ibis,” James Hurst uses Doodle’s interior conflict to communicate that it is not what other people push you to become, it is your choice to believe in yourself, and slowly progress from anything that is holding you back. In the middle of the story, when the narrator tries to teach Doodle to walk, Doodle makes a makes commentary like, “I can’t walk,” “ I just can’t do it” (6). Doodle did not believe that he could walk. After hearing his parents and the doctors tell him that he would never be able to walk, Doodle tries, over and over again and as a result he is able to prove them wrong. Doodle is prepared to overcome a major obstacle in his life, because he was willing to put forth the effort and admit to himself that it is possible
