The Scarlet Ibis And The Silver Wind Compare And Contrast

A Scarlet Ibis is a bird that inhabits tropical South America and the islands of the Caribbean. The book “The Scarlet Ibis” is about a boy named Doodle who cannot run, jump, swim, walk, and a brother that does not accept him. The Golden Kite, and the Silver wind are about a Mandarin who does not accept that the neighboring city of his has a better wall than his own. The Mandarin then keeps changing the wall so that he is more preferable than the other town. “The Scarlet Ibis” by William Hurst and “The Golden Kite, the Silver Wind” by Ray Bradbury share some relationships. So, The Scarlet Ibis and The Golden Kite, the Silver wind share the relationships of Pride, and Death. Furthermore, The Scarlet Ibis and The Golden Kite, the Silver Wind both include pride. Pride is linked with shame and embarrassment. Doodle’s older brother also known as the Narrator never had the pride of having his little brother that cannot run, jump, swim or walk. The Narrator says “It was bad enough having an invalid brother, but having one who possibly was not all there was unbearable, so I began to make plans to kill him by smothering him with a …show more content…
A Scarlet Ibis is red which symbolizes death. Doodle dies after his heart gave out, this symbolizes death. The Narrator says “He didn’t answer, so I placed my hand on his forehead and lifted his head. Limply, he fell backwards onto the earth. He had been bleeding from the mouth, and his neck and the front of his shirt was stained a brilliant red” (Hurst 6). Doodle shows death, which is also what the Narrator's pride let to. The Golden Kite, the Silver Wind includes death as well. When the cities are competing there is an amount of death. The Mandarin says “The population, working now steadily for endless months upon the changing of the walls, resembled Death himself, clattering his white bones like musical instruments in the wind. Funerals began
