The Black Dagger Brotherhood(BDB), is an ongoing book series (paranormal romance), that focus on the Black Dagger Brotherhood of vampire warriors who live together and defend their race against soulless humans called lessers. This series of books is my favourite and I wanted to show the connection each black dagger brothers had to each other and the blind king and how their families are connected. Therefore, I use the theory of “Six Degrees of Separation,” to show these connections. Blitzer, R. (2014) noted the theory states that anyone in the world can be joined to any other person through a chain of no more than four intermediate connections.…

The Black Guerilla Family became more structured as it grew from inside the prison, using their reputation to their advantage and developed a defined hierarchy. The high ranking leaders of the Black Guerilla Family extended its power and control outside the prison walls as it pulled in members from other gangs. The BGF began to recruit people on the outside to “serve as BGF couriers” and in fact had so much power that if those recruited chose to opt out or decline, they would have to “pay a monthly fee” (Ferranti, 2014). This was clearly an organized group who used crime to their advantage with complete disregard to the humans around them and a clear lack of respect for authority. With time on their side, the Black Guerilla Family members structured…

Known for her stories about adolescents struggling towards adulthood, Higuchi Ichiyō creates a small world full of contrasting young characters in one of her famous works, “Child’s Play”. Also known as “Takekurabe”, which translates to “growing up”, the children of the story cross the line that separates child from adult during a period of individualism and edification. Although “Child’s Play” embraces the purity of the coming-of-age theme, it adds darker elements in order to show the realistic sides to growing up. Despite how the Meiji restoration period provides chances to practice self-interests, society forces upon the children certain roles that it expects them to partake in without letting them decide their fates. As the children age,…
