I have searched endlessly to identify an aspect of life that embodied the core characteristics of honesty and integrity. Golf had me sold, and if it meant breaking out my grandfather’s old ping irons from the shed, well, then I was all in. The refreshing autumn air rested calmly on my face as I scaled the middle of the fairway, reaching for my sweet spot seven iron. Aligning my shot precisely, I darted the right side of the green leaving myself about a six foot putt. Hesitantly in my shy voice I said “Excuse me ma’am I have a sand wedge here”. In her quick response she said “Yes honey, go ahead over there you can order a sandwich” with a line of customers waiting to check in. I was severely confused now, “a sandwich?” I whispered to myself walking over to the snack bar. I followed her orders and stayed there watching businessman after businessman close deals as they polished their clubs and bragged about their scores. After the crowd had dwindled once again, I stepped out of line, approaching the woman once more. “Excuse me ma’am” she looked up and said “oh boy you again?”. Little did I know, I Nicholas George Regan, fourteen years of age, would be holding a crystal ball in my calist hands. The day I earned my license I returned to the course to see Betty Kennedy, come to find out that lady ran the place. Since then I have managed the cart barn, worked in the pro shop, and called the shots for her, three months out of the year, 92 days straight. Why?, because I’m simply dedicated, driven to succeed in anything I do. My grades are not necessarily an accurate representation of who I am as a person. Instead, I was passionate about directing my energy outside of the classroom. Working has always been a huge portion of me, not for the money, but rather to see a satisfaction from my owners, to see them at ease knowing someone like me was in charge, while respecting the power that came along with it.
