Have you ever had to lie to keep your friend out of trouble? Have you lied to keep yourself out of trouble? Lying can be a bad way to get out of situations if not used with caution. Most people have lied before so as to not get into trouble. I have lied a few times myself. However, lying can be helpful in many ways like to help get out of trouble in certain situations. It can also help to get respect or recognition from friends or family. Lying, if used in the correct situation, is not always the wrong thing to do. One way that lying is okay in the right situation is in a situation when a group of friends know something, and the one clueless friend lies about knowing what the friends were talking about. I can relate this situation to a scene from a movie called the Sandlot. In this movie there was a scene where the main charracter was talking with some friends about a guy named "The Great Bambino." He didn't know who that was so he lied about knowing who this person was. The same principle applies to situations outside the movie world. This is what I call a friendly lie which is where someone lies about something that doesn't really hurt or negatively effects a person. Lying can also save someone from getting in "trouble" like lying about doing the chores when this person really didn't do it. This is one way that lying is helpful and not bad. …show more content…
What I mean in this instance is like when people go hunting and that person kills a deer. Then said person goes back to their school/work and talk about how it was a twenty point deer when it was really only a four point deer. The person still lied about something but it did not hurt or negatively effect someone. People also lie to help a friend like saying this person did this awesome act of kindness when he/she really didn't do it. This is another way that lying is not always bad when practiced with

Lying often ends unethically, not only the can the lier be punished or feel guilty in the process, but it often goes further than anticipated. When looking back there seems to be more consequences on the result of the pretense than what the reward would have been if everything worked out and there was no lying. The Salem Witch Trials, the McCarthy Trials, and the McMartin Trials all proved that it is important to always be honest, regardless of the sacrifice.…

For example, if there is a person who does not like conflict, he or she may tell a lie to fix the problem (Ford 98-99). People will also lie to other people by leaving out less desirable information that might hurt the other person emotionally. Lisa Firestone wrote “Even lies told in the name of protecting others can leave you feeling pretty bad about yourself, because you don’t feel like an authentic, strong individual when you aren’t being honest” (Firestone). The most common reason that lies by omission are told is to prevent unpleasant situations from occurring, even if it causes one to feel guilty (Firestone). People who have a big heart or cannot stand the thought of hurting someone or embarrassing them typically will lie to the other person by leaving out the more displeasing details.…
