In the “Good Fortune” documentary, Jackson expressed his concern with the development process due to lack of stable institutions and infrastructures. He said that in order to have development, we have to have schools, roads, land, and resources, without those we cannot have development (Good Fortune). Similarly, in a different article, “Better Development through Better Policy?”, it discusses the missing and bad institutions within a country and how it makes it difficult for policymakers to make effective policies to help with development (Gibson, The Samaritan’s Dilemma: The Political Economy of Development Aid). In addition, to the discussion of institutions to help with development, the article also addresses the lack of institutions to accept the aid given to the country. I believe this kind of overlaps with the development process through giving aid. If a country does not have strong institutions that will use the aid to be productive in economically improving the living standards of the country, with seems to one of the main problems in global health problems. Thus, by just offering aid to a country that has no systems to prolong its benefit, our aid does nothing to help development.
