The Salem Witch Trials were court hearings for people who were thought to be witches. Twenty or more people were either hanged or burned. A year or two later the madness finally stopped. They started because some girls in 1692 were saying that they were possessed by the devil and that women in the town were witches. In colonial Massachusetts a court called to hear the cases of the so called witches. The first witch to be hanged was Bridget Bishop that june. 18 or more convicted witches, men, women, and children followed her to Salem Gallows Hill, where they were hanged.

When she was set on fire she suffered quietly for awhile but just before she died she let out blood curtailing screams. Then it was time for Lady Alice to be taken to the burning posts where she would be publicly killed. When the guards came for her they found that her cell felt extremely hot and smelled like smoke, and the iron door was red. The guards got some water to throw on the bars to cool them down and steam came off of the bars and was choking the men. After the steam had stopped and the bars cooled down they tried to open the locked cell but it wouldn't open, so they called someone to come and break it and when they did they found that the cell was empty. They looked all around the cell to see how Lady Alice but they found nothing. No one ever saw or heard anything about Lady Alice
