The Salem Witch Trials started in the spring of 1692, when a group of young girls in Salem Village, Massachusetts claimed to be possessed and accused several local women of practicing witchcraft. They first accused the people no one would miss, the church listening to their every word. Soon enough, others began to accuse more of being witches, also. Seventy-five people were arrested were arrested that May, with others to follow. The whole town contributed to the hysteria because everyone tried to escape accusations while at the same time accusing and turning on each other. Salem officials were arresting supposed witches based on the slightest evidence, which was essentially just the accusations of young girls, and the town lived in the witches’
