The Safety and Tolerance Among Youth (STAY) program will be built upon the MAP-IT planning model; this planning model is the best fit for this program because it focuses on the community as a whole rather than the individual. The mobilize portion of MAP-IT is achieved by gathering the teachers and administrators at participating schools to inform them of the problem and then train them how to be a part of the solution. The assess portion is achieved through an open forum with administrators, teachers, parents, and students to discuss what issues are of the highest priority to address. Planning is the current phase where STAYs components are being determined to best to address the priorities and achieve the program …show more content…

Many students who are LGBTQ are often bullied and left to eat alone during lunchtime, which is why the program will offer lunchtime should the students need that time. In doing so, it will allow students to have a safe and quiet environment free of bullying where they can enjoy their lunch, catch up on homework, or simply talk to other LGBTQ students. Depending upon the school’s lunch period, this will take anywhere from 30-40 minutes. The after school safe zones will be held for a much longer period of time. This can last anywhere from 2-3 hours. The reasons for implementing an after school safe zone is because 30-40 minutes everyday during lunch is not enough time for students to interact and bond with other students who are going through similar issues. Another reason for this is because LGBTQ students often encounter more aggressive and sometimes physical forms of bullying after school. Since they are no longer on school grounds, LGBTQ students are more susceptible to bullying. After school safe zone hours are not mandatory to attend and students may leave at any time they wish, however it is highly recommended that LGBTQ student attend, as it will help to give them a sense of support from other LGBTQ students.
Some other activities that will be included during the safety zones consists of arts and crafts, drama skits, watching movies, non baking cooking classes and musical performances. By providing
