Then at 1020 hours and 1040 hours the remaining waves of runners would start their attempt at this 26.2 mile marathon. Later that afternoon at approximately 1429 hours the first of two pressure cookers bombs detonated with the second bomb detonating just seconds after the first. With this information, law enforcement began to think that all the events were connected. Upon making contact with the two suspects, law enforcement ended up in a shootout with the two men and killed one of them but the other escaped. An area manhunt was in began as law enforcement resources from Federal, State, and local agencies joined together in searching for the remaining suspect. The implementation of this organized manhunt along with the fear of not knowing who was carrying out these terrifying acts basically shut down the Boston area as local authorities (law enforcement and city leaders) asked the public to stay in their homes as the Police basically went door to door looking for the alleged suspect. Eventually the last suspect was apprehended when a homeowner went to his backyard to check on his boat and found the suspect under its cover, bleeding from wounds he received from the gun fight with police the night before, called and reported the man to police. The technology used in this case was a tremendous asset in the capture and arrest of the coward(s) that committed this terrorist act and it would not have been as fast or effective without the use of the photographs before, …show more content…

Josef Heppburger was a German football player who is most well known for being the manager of the 1954 FIFA winner West German national football team. But perhaps what followed him more than his legendary playing and coaching career was his ability, when asked, to epitomize the intrinsic nature of the sport of soccer in just a few short words such as vor dem spiel ist nach dem spiel, which when translated into modern English means, “the end of the game is before the game.” This quote became popular not only because of its ability to roll off of the tongue in native German, but also because of its unintentional nod at the idea of destiny and fate and whether or not they are truly escapable. German filmmaker Tom Tywker had a different perspective on the ineludibility of our reality and fate. In his film Run, Lola, Run Tywker uses fast-paced action, sharp language, blood-curling screams and flashback to question the validity of free will against determinism, to…

The Boston Marathon bombings on April 15, 2013 was an event in American history that showed us as a nation that we are susceptible to the acts of others. We are all not promised tomorrow and that any moment your life can change forever. The act of terrorism is defined as the calculated use of violence or threat of violence against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear. On the day of April 15th, 2013 Chechen brothers Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev made the horror that most Americans had feared since the attacks on 9/11, a terrorist attack on our own soil. Another alarming revelation was that these brothers where homegrown…

After moving to America, the Tsarnaevs felt like a targeted minority because of their faith, causing them to become more devout Muslims. In the US, social media and internet access allowed them to have close contact with members and groups of Islamic fundamentalism, and it played a deep role in their radicalization. The terrorism committed was not just for religious beliefs, but it was targeted at the U.S. because they harmed the lives of so many Muslims in the War in Afghanistan and the Iraq War. The Boston Marathon Bombings established a new type of terrorism, influenced by exposure to jihad and Islamic fundamentalists abroad, the marginalization of the Tsarnaevs in the US, and the ability of social media to aid…

Even though lives were both lost and tortured in these tragic events, each event experienced different ways in which it tortured and killed people inhumanely. During the Holocaust the Nazi’s would torture and kill Jews in what were called concentration camps. Auschwitz, one of the biggest concentration camp, which was actually a combination of three different types of camps located in Poland.…
