The Rudimentary Idea Of The Trinity

Improved Essays
The rudimentary idea of the Trinity is found within the New Testament, but there is stark contrast when the conception of God in the Old Testament comes into view. The early church wrestled with whether God is one or three. Their answer is that God is triune— one substance, three persons. Since then, the church catholic continually affirms and reflects on this doctrine to understand God. Statements on the Trinity can become confusing when people begin to explain it, easily falling into God being three gods or a single god playing three different roles.

When Christians say the word, “God” it is the simplification of the proper name of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This conundrum of three and one can be explained by what it means for

As Charles Colson, a renowned Evangelical Christian writer and leader, wrote in his book “The Faith”, “When the God of the Bible is rejected, people choose a new god” (Colson, 68). The epitome of this statement can be found in 21st century American culture. Contrary to what some may proclaim, every American, and frankly everyone else in the world, has tabbed someone or something to fill the role of a “god” in his or her life. According to the Bible in Romans 1:20, God has revealed Himself and His qualities to the world through His creation, “For since the creation of the world God 's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse” (Romans 1:20 New International Version).…

Which is how to refer to the three, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, without diminishing one or increasing another. Ware careful expresses this need to refer to each with perspective almost to divide their roles. I’m a bit more careful to taking this approach, because I believe it leads to our general concern of, God does this, and Jesus does that, so that means the Holy Spirit is only responsible for this. I prefer to leave it at God is one working in us through three means of operation.…

Thus, Christianity is in Schelling’s perspective the only recipient of the divine revelation that once again discloses God’s spiritual oneness to humanity. However, although he decides to prioritize a particular tradition, the result of Schelling’s exploration of monotheism is God as the unfathomable unity of the three potencies. Moreover, we have to keep in mind God’s absolute freedom as regard having or not a relationship to being, or to any form of presentation of himself. Thus, it is fair to say that in Schelling’s view God is free enough to deny himself as Trinity. Hence, on one hand the Trinity is the best presentation possible of God’s essence as it reflects the three principles in their relationship with one another and with God.…

This weeks discussion forum asks to talk about the perichoresis relationship of the Trinity. Before this class, I knew that there was a "father", "son", and "spirit" but never dove deep into the meanings or their relationship together. I knew that there was only one God, but I didn't understand the concept of God being three persons. Every time I asked about it, I got the scenario of an egg, just as Grenz and Smith discussed. There is the yolk, egg white, and shell all serving their own roles, but together they are one.…

People are entitle to their thoughts and belief on religion, including Jehovah Witness. However, the truth of God’s word is the only things that will stand in the eternal heaven. God is not in the business of partiality of who He is. God is God, the maker of heaven and earth. Jehovah Witness does not recognize the Trinity doctrine because of their interpretation of Scripture.…

The Holy Spirit is the third person stated in the Triune God. He is in eternal relationship with the Father and The Son. 2 Corinthians 3:17 says, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” In the freedom of the spirit, we are transformed and enabled to reflect the image of God. The Holy Spirit began His life giving work in genesis when He “hovers over the shadows of the deep.”…

Those last three verses show the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; this is showing that they are all One. Allah is neither the father, son, nor Holy Spirit. “Say, ‘He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent’ (Surah 112:1-5).” “Allah does not ‘beget’ meaning that Allah has no children either in a spiritual or carnal sense.…

The Trinity is not an easy topic to explain especially from a carnal perspective. Speaking about spiritual things even the early Christians could not figure out the specifics and this has been a pattern throughout history. The topic of the Trinity does present a controversy from the time of Jesus even into modern times. The Nicaea Creed marks the changing of an era in the Roman Empire in regards to the rise of Christianity and the controversy of the Trinity. Even with the Arian controversy, Proto-Orthodoxy won in the end.…

One of the hermeneutical strategies used by Nazianzus is the incomprehensibility of God. God is something that can never be fully described by human words, as the subject of God “is impossible to [express], and yet more impossible to conceive,” as no human can see the face of God and lived to tell the tale on this side of eternity. Nazianzus defines God by what God is, but does not try to “comprehend the whole of so great a subject as this,” because it is utterly impossible. Dr. Valeria A. Karras, an assistant professor of Church History at Southern Methodist University puts it perfectly by saying that “we may know God experientially at least “in part,” that is, that we may experience God to the extent humanly possible,” which gives people…

Colossians 2:9 states “For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily.” Oneness Pentecostals state that the word Trinity is not found within scripture, and use this evidence for denying the trinity. Although the word is not present in scripture, if one looks closely at the teachings of the Bible, the doctrine of the Trinity can be clearly seen. The distinction of the Trinity is clearly laid out at Jesus baptism in Matthew 3:16-17. With in the versus Jesus as the son is baptized.…

Out of all of the writing that Harrison puts on the pages of her book, the part that interests me a lot is when she talks about leadership. When people think of leadership, they traditionally think about people who have position of power to say what is right for their followers to do and what is not. Harrison does a good job telling how true leadership should be. Following the example of the leadership in the Holy trinity, we can find that it includes respect, humility and equality. There are many aspects where this enlightenment can be applied in the world today.…

In order to consider yourself a Christian, to receive salvation, and to be accepted by the Body of Believers, you must uphold the sovereignty of the Trinity. The concept of God in Three Persons is clearly outlined in the Bible, and it is explained by Jesus Himself. The Trinity is an unchangeable aspect of God. It is part of God’s omniscience, it is the reason Jesus’ sacrifice resulted in our salvation, and it is the basis for the belief that God’s Spirit lives in us. Without the Trinity, there would be no Christianity; it is fundamental to our understanding of God.…
