The Roman Empire had some of the greatest cities ever built. Not only did they have buildings they had aqueducts and they had major roads or highways connecting all of their cities. They had cities all over the Mediterranean and Middle and southern Europe. These cities were center places of knowledge and power. They had garrisons of soldiers and they had strongholds that kept them safe. When the Roman Empire fell apart all of it’s advanced cities were captured by up and coming civilizations. The Anglo Saxons and the Franks were the two main takers of these lands and cities.
