I feel like he wanted to write this letter and sen it to them ahead of time so when he got there he could see how they were faring with what he had told them to change and to fix. At this time the Corinthian believers were struggling with unity and becoming one and coming together in community and he wanted to see them come together and to share the good news together. One of Pauls biggest issues that he is addressing is the sexual immorality and the debauchery that is taking place in the city of Corinth. It is suggested that there was a lot of unrepented sexual sin in the church and because of this it was effecting other peoples judgment in the church and effecting their spiritual states. The Corinthian believers had issues for a while with gentile cultic worship and with their cultic worship they had sexual immorality and it was effecting a lot of the ways Corinthian believers worshipped and thought what worship would be. In the letter to the Corinthians Paul’s main argument is that the christian corinthians way of living the christian life had been corrupted by the gentiles way of living and worship to their gods this can be supported when Paul says in his letter, “20 For I fear that perhaps when I come I may find you not as I wish, and that you may find me not as you wish—that perhaps there may be quarreling, jealousy, anger, hostility, slander, gossip, conceit, and disorder. 21 I fear that when I come again my God may humble me before you, and I may have to mourn over many of those who sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual immorality, and sensuality that they have practiced”(2 Corinth 12:20-21).
