In an article titled Using Student Achievement Date to Support Instructional Decision Making, support the idea that results from standardized testing should not just be used once a year. Rather they recommend that principals keep “make the data part of the ongoing cycle of instructional improvement”. To improve student achievement, students should take ownership in the date. Principals should encourage their teachers to incorporate more self assessment measuring and analysis of their own data. Furthermore, the article claims that school districts need to establish a district wide data system that is incorporated in the overall school environment. The educational leader needs to emphasize the need to collect data from a wide range of sources like school administered tests or benchmarks, classroom assessments and any other form of evaluation to collect data. A strategic plan is one that provides the school with clear goals that need to be accomplished and the mean of achieving them. This document, when developed and used properly by the principal and other stakeholders, becomes a valuable tool used to increase student achievement. Goals should be clear and concise with a vision of the future. The role of the modern day principal entails that the plan is established and is enforced by all members. Principals are faced with these issues because not all teachers will be on board with the district goals. Through research, having a well established and enforced plan improved students learning. Principals can ensure that the plan is followed by setting long and short term goals. They can follow up periodically to track the progress and also monitor the effectiveness of the goals set
