New techniques for playing instruments were made along with more complex range and size of instruments performances. These collaborations gave rise to opera and solo instrumental performances. The cantata, oratorio, and concerto genres also rose with these new techniques. The instruments used include the cello, the baroque flute, the cornet, the organ and the tenor drum.
The Classic period (1750-1828) saw major changes as the church’s power declined and science as well as philosophy and reasoning rose. The scientific method was created, used and applied to discovering the secrets of the universe and life. Reasoning rose along with science to understand the world as well as the universe and social order. Since reason rose individuals began to question social order and importance which led to the American and French revolutions.
The music in this period compared to the Baroque period is less complex, smoother and lighter. During this time symphonies arose and the orchestra grew in size as well as range and the piano took center stage (the solo). Today there are many genres and types of music for an individual to listen to such as rock, rap, country and classical. Along with these genres there are also subgenres inside each category such as classic rock, alternative, indie and heavy metal. Tones, melodies and rhythms are diverse and are often polyrhythms.
