You can see during the war in troy, he was with Clypso, and only her asking her father to send Hermes to deliver him and then when Odysseus landed in the island of the Phaecians; Athena makes him look attractive, this way Nausicaa, a Phaeacian princess, would love him and be willing to help him back home. Athena also disguises herself so many times to assist Odysseus. For example, in Book 7, Athena disguises herself as a young girl, and helps Odysseys find the Phaeacians palace. She informs Odysseus that he must take revenge against the suitors because they want to wed his wife, and overtake his palace. Here again, we can see the importance of goddess Athena in Odysseus's life. She is constantly at his side, providing him with knowledge and support. As a result, Odysseus was able to take his revenge against the suitors. So through all the examples, we can see that Odysseus would never have made it home without Athena’s power and love. On the same token, we can see that even if other Gods such as Poseidon and Calypso have tried to kill or/ keep Odysseus for his return to Ithaca, Athena was always there to find solutions to save him. In book 13, Poseidon punished those phaeacians who have helped Odysseus to return home.
